Diesel & HDD Mechanic Serving Orlando, Apopka & Central Florida
A3 Mechanic is a diesel and HDD mechanic shop and licensed equipment dealer at 4350 Hogshead Rd in Apopka, Florida, working on directional drills, heavy machinery and diesel work trucks for contractors across Orlando and the rest of Central Florida. The shop opened in 2023 and the mechanics here have more than twenty years each on HDD rigs, heavy equipment and trucks. Work happens two ways: at the Apopka shop, or at your yard or jobsite through mobile service. Call (689) 688-6796.
Where the shop is
The shop is at 4350 Hogshead Rd, Apopka, FL 32703, in northwest Orange County, open Monday to Friday from 7 AM to 5 PM. Apopka sits roughly twenty minutes northwest of downtown Orlando by way of US-441, which puts it close to the utility, fiber and site work going on around the north and west sides of the metro without putting a machine into downtown traffic to get serviced. Everything is in one building: the service bays, the hydraulic work, the welding and fabrication, the parts and tooling, and the equipment yard. That matters when a machine needs a part and a repair on the same day, because nothing has to move between buildings or wait on another vendor.
Cities and counties we cover
A3 Mechanic serves Orange, Seminole, Lake and Osceola counties, which covers most of Central Florida.
Orlando. The metro is where most of the work is. Utility and fiber installs, underground contractors, site work crews and fleets of diesel trucks all run out of the Orlando area, and the shop handles both the drilling side and the truck side for them.
Apopka. The shop’s own town. Contractors based in northwest Orange County get the shortest haul to the shop, and it is common for a machine to come in one day and a truck the next.
Winter Garden. West Orange County has been building steadily for years, which means site work, underground utility installs and the equipment that goes with them.
Ocoee. Sitting between Apopka, Winter Garden and Orlando, Ocoee crews are close to the shop by way of the west side road network, and the work is the usual mix of site development and utility installation.
Clermont. Over in Lake County, the work leans toward residential and commercial development and the contractors supporting it, with drill crews and compact equipment moving between sites.
Sanford. North in Seminole County, along the I-4 corridor, with utility work, fleets and contractors who would rather keep a truck local than send it across the metro.
Winter Park. Established neighborhoods, commercial corridors and utility upgrades, where crews often work in tight conditions and depend on smaller machines staying reliable.
Kissimmee. Osceola County and the corridor south of Orlando, with heavy residential and commercial growth, site work contractors and drilling crews putting in new services.
Shop or jobsite
Two ways to get service, and they work together. Mobile service takes diagnostics and many repairs to your yard or your jobsite anywhere in the area, which is the right answer when the machine is down where it sits, when nobody yet knows what failed, or when moving the machine costs more than fixing it. The Apopka shop is the right answer for anything needing a lift, a press, heavy disassembly, certified welding or serious bench time. If a mobile visit turns up a repair that belongs in the shop, you find that out on that visit instead of on the third trip. More on how that decision gets made is on the mobile mechanic page.
The shop covers heavy machinery and HDD maintenance and repair, work trucks and diesel engines, DEF diagnostics and DPF regeneration, A/C and electrical, certified welding and fabrication, and hydraulics handled in house. Details on the truck and engine side are on the diesel mechanic page, and the drilling side is on the HDD service page.
What to do when a machine is down
Before you call, gather what the mechanic will ask for. It costs you five minutes and it usually saves a trip.
Make, model, year and hours. A Vermeer D24x40 and a Ditch Witch JT20 fail in different places, and the hour meter tells us what to expect from a machine of that age.
What it is doing. Not starting, losing power, leaking, overheating, throwing a code, making a noise. Say when it started and whether it is constant or intermittent. Intermittent is worth mentioning, because it changes how the machine gets tested.
Fault codes. Whatever the display is showing, written down or photographed. Codes are a starting point, not an answer, but they narrow things quickly.
Where the machine is. Apopka yard, Orlando jobsite, already at another shop. That decides whether a mobile visit or a shop visit makes sense.
Photos or video. A short video of the machine running, or photos of the leak, the broken part or the code on the screen, sent on WhatsApp before the call. This is the single most useful thing you can do, because it often lets the mechanic bring the right parts on the first visit.
Repair history. If another shop has already been into it, say what was replaced or adjusted so the same diagnostic steps are not repeated on your money.
If the machine is down for good rather than down for the week, the shop also sells new and used machines, parts and tooling, and does pre-purchase inspections on used equipment you found somewhere else. What is on the yard right now is in the inventory. Call (689) 688-6796, Monday to Friday, 7 AM to 5 PM.
Frequently asked questions
Where exactly is the shop?
4350 Hogshead Rd, Apopka, FL 32703, in northwest Orange County, open Monday to Friday from 7 AM to 5 PM. Apopka sits roughly twenty minutes northwest of downtown Orlando by way of US-441, so most of the metro is a short haul. Call (689) 688-6796 before loading a machine so the shop knows it is coming.
Which counties do you cover?
Orange, Seminole, Lake and Osceola, which is most of Central Florida. That includes Orlando, Apopka, Winter Garden, Ocoee, Clermont, Sanford, Winter Park and Kissimmee. Shop service is in Apopka and mobile service covers the area for diagnostics and many repairs at your yard or on the jobsite.
Do you come out to jobsites or only to yards?
Both. Mobile service handles diagnostics and many repairs where the machine sits, whether that is a contractor yard or an active jobsite. Work that needs a lift, a press, heavy disassembly or certified welding comes into the Apopka shop. The mechanic on the mobile visit will tell you which one you are in.
What do you need to know when I call about a machine that is down?
Make, model, year and hours. What the machine is doing, when it started and whether it is constant or intermittent. Any fault codes showing on the display. Where the machine is sitting. Photos or a short video on WhatsApp help, especially for a leak, a broken part or a code on the screen.
Can I buy a machine and have it serviced by the same shop?
That is how this shop is set up. A3 Mechanic is a licensed equipment dealer as well as a working diesel and HDD shop, so title, registration and sales tax are handled properly and the mechanics who service the machine are the ones who inspected it. Current machines are listed in the inventory on this site.
