What we carry

Start / Transition Rods. The first rod out of the rack takes the worst of it. We stock Vermeer Starter Rods and Ditch Witch Transition Rods so the connection between your rig and the string is the right piece rather than a compromise.

Drill Rods. Rod is stocked by machine. Ditch Witch crews will find pipe for JT9 and JT10, JT12 and JT1220, JT1720 and JT1720M1, JT20 and JT2020, JT2720, JT2720M1 and JT3020M1, JT25 JT2720M1 and JT30, JT4020, JT4020M1, JT60 and JT100. Vermeer crews will find D7x11 and D9x13, D16x20 and D18x22, D20x22 and D23x30, D24x40 and D23x30, D36x50, D36x50 and D40x55, D50x100 and D60x90, and D80x100 and D50x100.

Reamers. The reamer is where the bore is won or lost. In stock: Steep Taper Fly-Cutter and Fly-Cutter for softer ground, Radial and Barrel for mixed conditions, and Winged, Rhino, Hurricane, All-Terrain, Cyclone and Tri-Action for harder and more abrasive soil.

HDD Bits. Bits are stocked as the Standard HDD Drill Bit, the Hardfaced HDD Drill Bit, the Crusher HDD Drill Bit and the Tri-Cone Rock HDD Drill Bit, so the pilot bore has the right face for the ground it is cutting.

Pullers. For product pullback we stock Wire Mesh Grips, Expandable Pullers and Carrot / InnerDuct Pullers, which covers cable, pipe and conduit work without improvising at the pit.

Swivels. Swivels are stocked from Swivels 5 Ton through Swivels 10 Ton, Swivels 15 Ton, Swivels 20 Ton, Swivels 30 Ton and Swivels 45 Ton up to Swivels 60 Ton.

Collars, Sub Savers and Adapters. Vermeer Collars and Ditch Witch Collars are in stock, along with Vermeer compatible and Ditch Witch compatible sub savers and adapters. A sub saver is cheap next to a damaged spindle, and that is the whole argument for keeping one on the shelf.

Sonde Housings. Side and Top Load Sonde Housings are stocked, including the Side Load (Box x Box) style, so a worn housing does not turn into a bad read at depth.

Mud supplies. The Universal HDD fluid line is here with the tooling: UNI-BORE HDD Bentonite, UNI-GEL HDD Bentonite, UNI-PAC HDD Polymer, UNI-PHPA HDD Polymer, UNI-VIS HDD Polymer and UNI-LUB HDD Lubrication, along with UNIMIX mud mixers, UNITANK mixing tanks and UNIMUD pumps.

Why buy from A3

A3 Mechanic is a licensed equipment dealer and a working diesel and HDD shop, founded in 2023, with mechanics carrying more than twenty years each on heavy machinery, HDD rigs and work trucks. Parts here are chosen by people who repair the rigs those parts go into. We stock what we service and we service what we sell, which is why the rod sizes on the shelf match the machines sitting in the yard.

That matters when the part is not the whole answer. If your sub saver is chewed up, the spindle usually needs a look. If the housing is worn, the sonde reading is probably next. We do hydraulics in house, from diagnostics through hoses, cylinders and pumps, plus certified welding and fabrication, so a damaged component can be repaired rather than only replaced. Machines, parts, locators and trailers are all under one roof in Apopka, and we are a Universal HDD dealer in Florida if the conversation turns from parts to a new rig.

Being a licensed equipment dealer is part of it as well, since the same counter that sells you a reamer can handle a machine sale with title, registration and sales tax done properly. But the daily value of this shop to a drilling crew is simpler than that. It is a phone call where the person on the other end knows what a JT20 rack holds, what a D24x40 pulls, and why your sub saver keeps failing on the same connection.

Who this is for

HDD parts and tooling go out to directional drilling contractors who cannot let a bore sit, to utility and fiber installers running long pulls in tight right of way, to site work contractors who took on a bore and need the tooling to finish it, and to fleet owners keeping rod, reamers and sub savers stocked across several crews. If you work anywhere in Orange, Seminole, Lake or Osceola county, the counter is close enough that sending a truck beats waiting on a shipment.

How pricing works

Most of this category is quoted rather than listed, because rod, reamers, swivels and housings are priced by size, connection and configuration, and a number that does not match your rig is not useful to you. Where a price is fixed it is published. Everywhere else the listing says Call for price, and the fastest way through it is to give us your machine model and what you are pulling. Trade-ins and consignment are both possible on machines if that is part of the conversation, so ask us. Call (689) 688-6796 to confirm what is on the shelf.

Service area

The shop is at 4350 Hogshead Rd, Apopka, FL 32703, open Monday to Friday, 7 AM to 5 PM. We supply parts and tooling across Orlando, Apopka, Winter Garden, Sanford, Kissimmee, Clermont, Winter Park, Ocoee and the rest of Central Florida, covering Orange, Seminole, Lake and Osceola counties. Shop service and mobile service are both available for the rigs behind the tooling, so diagnostics and many repairs can happen at your yard or on the jobsite, while bigger jobs come to the shop in Apopka.

Frequently asked questions

Do you stock drill pipe for my rig?

We stock rod by machine, not by guesswork. On the Ditch Witch side that covers JT9 and JT10, JT12 and JT1220, JT1720, JT20 and JT2020, JT25 JT2720M1 and JT30, JT4020, JT60 and JT100. On the Vermeer side it runs from D7x11 and D9x13 up through D80x100 and D50x100. Call with your model.

Which reamer should I be running?

It depends on the ground and the product you are pulling back. Fly-Cutter and Steep Taper Fly-Cutter reamers suit softer soils, Barrel and Radial handle mixed conditions, and Rhino, Hurricane, All-Terrain, Cyclone, Tri-Action and Winged reamers cover harder and more abrasive ground. Tell us the soil and the pullback and we will point you at the right one.

What size swivels do you carry?

Swivels are stocked from 5 Ton through 10, 15, 20, 30 and 45 Ton up to 60 Ton, so you can match the swivel to the pullback rather than overbuying. Pullers are here as well, including Wire Mesh Grips, Expandable Pullers and Carrot / InnerDuct Pullers for conduit work.

Can I get parts for both Vermeer and Ditch Witch rigs?

Yes. Collars, sub savers and adapters are stocked in Vermeer compatible and Ditch Witch compatible versions, along with rod for both, because most crews in Central Florida run one of the two. If you run a Universal HDD rig, we are a Universal HDD dealer and support that line as well.

Do you carry mud supplies with the tooling?

We do. The Universal HDD fluid line is stocked here, including UNI-BORE and UNI-GEL bentonite, UNI-PAC, UNI-PHPA and UNI-VIS polymers and UNI-LUB lubrication, along with UNIMIX mixers, UNITANK tanks and UNIMUD pumps. Picking up rod, reamers and mud on the same stop saves a second trip.
